Did you hear? Dogs are Allowed in Disney Resort Hotels! That’s right! We brought Cooper to a dog-friendly Disney Resort Hotel, and we have got all the information you need to do the same!
My birthday was coming up and I was feeling low. You see, I used to really enjoy my birthdays but now I just find them to be stressful. I am a big picture thinker, so I don’t enjoy planning birthday gatherings, because of all the details. Don’t get me wrong; I do enjoy hosting, but I always put high expectations on my birthday and then am always let down when it isn’t what I expected.
Is it just me or do you also feel this way?
I talked to Josh about it, and we decided that going out of town would be best to avoid all the unnecessary drama that always seems to accompany my birthday. We wanted to find a place that would keep us busy but also welcomed Cooper, our dog. We were leaning toward an amusement park but would need to spend the night. I thought it would be so cool if we could find a dog-friendly Disney Resort Hotel and that’s when I learned that this idea of mine was a real thing!
There were a few resorts to choose from in the Disney area. It is important to know that bringing your dog to Disney may not be a permanent opportunity! Disney calls this their new dog-friendly pilot program! If you’re interested in bringing your dog to Disney, do it now! Dog-friendly Disney Resort Hotel may be going extinct pretty soon.
More information on the dog-friendly Disney Resort Hotels and their pet fees, which is an additional fee:
- Disney’s Art of Animation Resort $50/night
- Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside Resort $50/night
- Disney’s Yacht Club Resort $75/night
- Cabins at Disney’s Ft. Wilderness Resort $50/night
These additional fees can seem hefty; here’s how we make money while we travel.
On the eve of my birthday, Josh surprised me with tickets to Epcot and a one night stay at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort. This dog-friendly Disney Resort Hotel is one that we’ve only ever visited, never stayed at. The resort is divided into 3 themes: Finding Nemo, Cars, and The Little Mermaid, which is the one we were in! It worked out perfectly because The Little Mermaid is my favorite.
We arrived early on Friday; even though check-in wasn’t until 3 p.m. After mentioning that we had Epcot tickets and that it was my birthday, we managed to get into our room by 10 a.m. We tried to park close to our first-floor room but we ended up walking super far with Cooper’s heavy, metal cage and all of our luggage. We were only there for a night, but you would have thought we were there for a week!
It was awkward walking Cooper around the resort; it just felt like we were breaking the rules. We did see another dog and we ended up staying next door to them. I’m not sure if you’ll always be on the first floor with pets or if it was just a coincidence. I looked on their website, which read, “Each guest room will have easy access to outdoor pet walkways for exercise and green spaces with pet relief areas.” This doesn’t clarify if it will always be on the first floor, but one can hope! Speaking of which, there are no designated walkways for dogs, so plan to walk your dog alongside strollers, runners, and kids galore!
When you check-in with your dog, you’ll get what they call Pluto’s Welcome Kit, which is a blue, Disney string backpack. Here’s what you’ll find inside your Disney backpack given to you at check-in!

Although the dog-friendly Disney Resort Hotel was super cool to explore, we needed to get to Epcot, so we dropped Cooper off in the room for just a few hours before returning to feed him and take him outside. You may only leave your dog in the dog-friendly Disney Resort Hotel for 7 hours max at a time. Having Cooper with us on vacation made it feel just like home but better! If you are a true dog lover like us, then you know how special these furry friends are and to have them right there with you on your vacation is just the best!
We had an absolutely great time with Cooper and now you can, too! But, hurry! I am not sure how much longer this pilot program will last, so get yourself to a dog-friendly Disney Resort Hotel before it’s too late!
