Do you have a fear of travel? You’re not alone.

Your friends will thank you!

For the longest time, I thought I’d never see the world due to my fear of feeling out of control. On planes and boats, I have to completely rely on a stranger steering our air or water craft. I know all the facts about planes and boats being the safest and blah, blah, blah. I’ve read numerous books on anxiety. I’ve watched the documentaries and clips on how planes fly and boats float, but my fear is greater than my logic.

It is an irrational fear that started on a red eye trip from the west coast to the east coast of the US. After a substantial amount of turbulence, I had a panic attack and thought we’d never land. It was a tough experience, to say the least. I stepped off the plane and understood that I would never travel again.

I lived in the same house my entire life and I went to a university 15 minutes away from home. Some would say I am the truest definition of a local. Growing up, my parents loved to travel and were exceptionally considerate when selecting how we would journey from place to place. In fact, my parents ended up buying an R.V., and then the road tripping really began. It shouldn’t come to you as a surprise that I’ve never left the country, and have essentially never had an urge to see the world… that is, until I met my husband.

Josh is adventurous, courageous, and determined. Growing up, he dreamed of exploring the world as an archaeologist, but, alas, life took him in a different direction. He also moved around a lot as a kid and lived in 5 states and over 20 houses by the time he finished high school. That’s madness! Josh has family and friends around the world. So, “travel” is on his favorite’s list.

In 2017, I decided enough was enough. You can only visit theme parks and beaches so many times. I want to see the world! I know it won’t be easy, but I have plans to overcome my fears.

If you’re like me, an anxious worrier looking to become an adventurous warrior, then join me as this local goes global.
